Have spent the last few months intensely working with a community, while also teaching a couple of courses focusing on subcultures and ethnic communities. So, thinking a lot about that, seeing some fantastic things come of that–but also seeing the limitations of community, its dark sides. I’m not opting out of these connections, by any means. But beginning now to see — what it is, and what it isn’t, and what I hope for it to be.

I’ve been frustrated with writing (poetry) lately, but also feel now that my fundamental stance toward that process is changing, and needs to change. It’s a time, definitely, for listening, and paying attention. And for moving towards and supporting people and communities that will get us through this uncertain age with compassionate action and wisdom.

  1. This is interesting. I am more than curious to see how your changing stance informs your future poetry.
