Just a quick update on my first Open Studios experience. Well, I gotta say — it went well. Here’s a little video of my front patio, during a quiet moment between visitors. “Distant” drumming courtesy of Soma.FM (probably the BlackRock station):
My first visitors made a purchase, which I considered a good omen. And overall, I sold more paintings than I expected, and had a great time talking to people, too. I received a nice variety of visitors both local and visiting from other areas. And it’s so much easier and immediate–and pleasant–to sell to people face-to-face, than it is from afar, when you have to wrap, ship, and mail work off to people you’ll likely never meet (and also have to deal with distributor rules, and shipping costs).
Everything is a learning experience, of course, and there are a lot of things I will do differently next year — and yes, I plan to do this next year. Thank you, Arts Habitat, and everyone who helped to put in the hard work to make this event happen!
